Police to Step up Traffic Patrols near Schools

The Norwalk Police Department recently issued the following announcement about driving and school safety:

The Norwalk Police Department would like to remind all motorists that the school year begins this Wednesday, Aug. 28, and to be aware of additional cars, busses and pedestrians using our streets.

As part of our Back to School Safety campaign, additional patrol and motorcycle Officers will be focusing on vehicle traffic, pedestrian safety, and speeding violations around our schools.

We will be targeting school bus violations and distracted drivers, as well as pedestrian safety. This additional Police presence is a reminder to slow down and keep safe!

We would like to remind motorists to be aware of children at intersections and crosswalks, be careful when following or approaching a school bus, especially near bus stops, and DO NOT pass a school bus that is stopped with its lights flashing.

Our officers will be providing a very visible presence around the schools targeting drivers who are speeding or using hand held cell phones in these areas.

Norwalk Police urge everyone in our community to help us protect our children by staying alert while driving.
