Norwalk police arrested former Norwalk Assistant Town Clerk Deborah Troy on Wednesday, charging her with stealing $3,000 from the city since at least 2010.
Troy, 42, was charged after police applied for and received a warrant for her arrest after an 11-month investigation conducted
Norwalk police Detective Bill Maloney and CPA Stephen Pedneault, both certified fraud examiners, documented that more than $3,000 had been taken since at least 2010.
Police began their investigation after receiving a complaint from Town Clerk Richard McQuaid, who found irregularities in various transactions at the Town Clerk’s Office.
The warrant charges Troy of 6 Catalpa St. with one count of larceny. Since the crime involved “defrauding a public community,” the theft is considered a first-degree Larceny, a felony.
Troy turned herself in at Norwalk Police Department after arrangements were made through her attorney. Troy was released on a written promise to appear Nov. 8 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
