Thefts from 5 Motor Vehicles in SE Corner of Norwalk

Editor's note: This article was updated with additional information at 12:43 p.m.

Residents at five spots in East Norwalk, all within a few blocks of Marvin School (but mostly on Canfield Crossing), told police that their vehicles had been entered overnight Monday to Tuesday.

All but one of the vehicles was locked. One Canfield Crossing resident's security cameras showed a white male, weighing about 145 lbs. and wearing sweat pants and a T-shirt, enter her car at 12:10 a.m.

Here's what was taken at each location:

-- 2 Canfield Crossing -- Taken from an unlocked vehicle was a pair of leather gloves.

-- 4 Canfield Crossing -- Taken from an unlocked car was a briefcase valued at $300, containing credit cards, a passport and an iPhone valued at $450.

-- 5 Canfield Crossing -- A $500 pair of Dolce & Gabana sunglasses was taken after the thief opened the unlocked driver's-side door, according to the security camera.

-- 1 Gilbert St. -- This was the only car that was broken into, probably because it was the only one that wasn't locked. There was damage to the driver's door. An HP Probook laptop was taken.

-- 6 Marvin St. -- At 7 a.m., the owner noticed a passenger door was not closed all the way and the glove box had been entered. Taken were a cell phone charger and a Blue Tooth phone device. The owner thought the car was locked, but there was no sign of forced entry.

"I can't stress enough how important it is to please lock your doors," said Norwalk Police Sgt. Lisa Cotto, a spokeswoman for the department.

If anyone has any information on the thefts or saw someone in that area matching the description of the man seen in the security camera, please call Norwalk police at (203) 854-3000, Cotto said.
