There's a Limit to What CL&P Will Fix for You

Connecticut Light & Power says the company is responsible for the meter and wires going to a home but if the device that accepts the utility wire is damaged, those repairs must be made before the home can have its power restored.

Editor's note: The following is quoted directly from a Connecticut Light & Power news release sent Tuesday:

As Connecticut Light & Power works to restore power across the state, homeowners should be aware that any damage to customer-owned equipment must be repaired by licensed, professional electricians before we can reconnect power lines to your home.

CL&P will repair the equipment leading to your home, including the service wire and connectors. Homeowners are responsible for all other equipment attached to a residence, including a clevis (house knob), weatherheads, conduits, conductors and the meter box. However, you are not responsible for damage to the meter.

If repairs are required beyond a simple reattachment of your electrical service to your home, please contact a properly licensed and insured electrical contractor to perform the necessary repairs. This should expedite your service restoration.
