Good Friday: What's Open, What's Closed

Connecticut and local government offices are closed, but the Post Office and federal government offices are open. Banks have a choice.

Good Friday, the day that most Christians mark the crucifixion of Jesus, is considered a state holiday but not one for the federal government.

Banks, which have the option in Connecticut of closing on state or federal holidays if they post a notice in their lobbies at least two weeks in advance, are generally open this day. But TD BankBank of America and Wachovia Bank, which may generally be open on Sundays, will be closed on Easter Sunday.

This year, the Greek Orthodox Church celebrates Easter on the same day as Roman Catholic and Protestant churches.
