Ice Cream That Excites

Welcome Tea-rrific Ice Cream!  I am so excited that you have entered my culinary field of vision.  It thrills me that you are a local product, being produced in the heart of Fairfield county. Your tea-infused flavors are delightful and surprisingly delicious. I am having a hard time declaring my favorite flavor.  Ginger Matcha: I think its you, but do me a favor, and don’t tell the other flavors yet.

I discovered Tea-rrific Ice Cream at the New York City Fancy Food Show earlier this summer.  I was so excited to come across a local Connecticut product and so surprised that I had not heard of it until then.  As the name suggests, each ice cream flavor is infused with a special tea.  Those tea flavors are then paired with other ingredients to create unusual and exciting flavor profiles. Take Ginger Matcha for instance.  The earthiness of Matcha green tea really comes out with that spicy zing of ginger.  Or the Chunky London Mist made with Earl Gray tea showcased by hint of vanilla and citrus. I LOVED the chocolate flakes and roasted pecans in it.  They add excellent flavor and texture.  Chamomile is delicate and mild while Masala Chai is bold and deeply flavorful.  In it, fresh ground spices are added to a blend of black and rooibos tea resulting in distinct spicy notes that sing on your palate.  Five flavors, each unique and noteworthy.  You just have to try them and discover your favorite.

Tea-rrific Ice Cream does not contain any gums, stabilizers, preservatives, artificial colors, artificial flavors or high fructose corn syrup. This means that Mario Leite, the creator of Tea-rrific, is really putting a lot of effort into extracting natural flavors from each ingredient while maintaining their integrity and identity.  Most of the ingredients are locally sourced - like cage free eggs and cream from local farms.

With a creamy texture, yet fewer calories than most ice creams on the market, this product does not have a heavy finish.  Unlike most ice creams, which leave your palate  heavily coated with creamy residue - this ice cream is clean in its finish.  In fact some local chefs have told Mario that it almost finishes like a sorbet.  Aren’t you intrigued?  :-)

I loved that its not too sweet.  I love that the tea flavors are so distinct making this a truly unique product line.  Mario told me that, tea, being naturally delicate in taste, is a hard flavor to pair with.  Hence, he has to take great care in making sure it does not get overwhelmed by other ingredients.  A job well done, I say!
