Young Musician: 'I Don't Believe in Back-Up Plans'

Norwalk Community College student Angel Ciufo is sitting in the lobby of East Campus on Thursday afternoon chatting with friends and clutching one of his most beloved possessions: his acoustic guitar.

Ciufo taught himself how to play nine years ago and now he's waiting to hear whether he'll be accepted into the Berklee College of Music this fall. "I'm confident that I'll get in," he told Patch.

He received his first acoustic guitar from his grandfather at the age of nine. "But I didn't really get into it until my uncle bought me an electric guitar," he said.

When he's not taking classes at NCC, the Brien McMahon High School grad writes and performs music and teaches guitar lessons. "It allows me to do what I love to do and make good money."

Ciufo transferred to NCC after taking some international business classes in Maine because "it was what my parents told me I should do." He then decided to major in English at NCC, but realized that wasn't his passion either. "I don't believe in back-up plans," he said.

Cuifo says that in the future, he sees himself playing a solo performance on his guitar with a symphony behind him. "Every good symphony deserves some good electric guitar, " he said.
