Zach was born and raised in New York City. He graduated from Hunter College while working as a reporter for the New York Post, where he started as an intern in 2000. Zach spent almost seven years covering all aspects of city news for the Post, including beat coverage of the NYPD and Brooklyn's state and federal courts. At the end of 2006, he went on to work for ABC's 20/20 and Primetime before returning to the paper as a city desk editor. After that, Zach wrote freelance pieces for various  news outlets before joining Patch.
