Although Columbus Magnet School is part of Norwalk Public Schools, students must apply and are accepted on a lottery basis; admissions decisions are made in January. As such, the school has a diverse student body drawn from every district of Norwalk.

Visitors to Calf Pasture Beach can take advantage of the volleyball and bocce courts, softball fields, fishing pier (with a license from Town Clerk), sailing school, kayak and wind-surfing rentals, picnic grove and boardwalk concessions.
