<p>Founded in 1902, Norwalk High School is the oldest high school in Connecticut. Its mission is to teach skills that will help  students to gain, use and apply information. Principal Leonard Mecca says, "Teachers will foster self-directed learning and good citizenship in a safe environment. All students will be held to high expectations, so they will be successful after graduation."</p>
<p>There is a diverse student body of about 1,700, and a faculty of 100.</p> <p>Students can join one of about 40 extracurricular clubs for a a variety of interests, from theater to languages to even chess and bowling.</p> <p>Sports teams include baseball, football, tennis, lacrosse and field hockey. The school's marching band has consistently won honors in national competitions.</p>
