Pizza, Beer & Music Fundraiser for Community Plates

A day of pizza, beer and music at Coalhouse Pizza in Stamford will benefit Norwalk-based Community Plates, anti-hunger non profit that rescues food through a network of food runners using state-of-the-art technology.

On Saturday, Nov. 23, Coalhouse Pizza, in partnership with Two Roads Brewing Company and OmNomCT will host a day full of brunch, pizza, great food, live music, and 52 brews on tap to benefit  Community Plates, the Norwalk-based food rescue organization.

Gerard Robertson, owner of Coalhouse Pizza, will donate 10% of all sales and take-out orders that day to  Community Plates.

"I've known about Community Plates for a while and wanted to find a way to help them continue their mission to end hunger in Fairfield County," Robertson said in a release. "This is an important time of year to help out, as the holidays are near and we stop to remember what we're most thankful for."

The day will start off at 10:00 a.m. with Coalhouse Pizza's regular menu and brunch menu, featuring beer-infused cocktails, bottomless mimosas, Irish breakfast, corned beef hash, and even do-it-yourself breakfast pizzas.  Then, at 3:00, Coalhouse will stop serving brunch and will focus on their popular menu that will include a special Thanksgiving Plate pizza.

During the day, customers can also meet with Meghan Zachry of Two Roads Brewing Company.  She'll be on hand talking about Two Roads beer and offering up speciality flights for purchase so people can get a nice sampling of their brews.  Customers will not only be able to try Two Roads' most popular beers like Ol' Factory Pils and Worker's Comp Saison, but they can try the brand new Holiday Ale and Route of All Evil, as well as a rare cask-conditioned beer.

Community Plates, based in Norwalk, is committed to ending food insecurity in America.  Recognizing the problem as a matter of logistics, not a lack of food, the organization established a volunteer-driven, technology fueled method for transferring surplus food to those in need.

The simple process includes food donors (e.g., grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, bakeries and other food-service establishments), food runners (individuals who pick-up and deliver donated food) and receiving agencies (e.g., soup kitchens, pantries, etc.).

Scheduling is made easy with the web and smartphone enabled Community Plates’ GoRescue technology powered by WhenToManage, which received the 2013 Computerworld Honors Program 21st Century Achievement Award for human services.  Since Community Plates was founded in 2011, more than 700 volunteers have rescued food that equates to over two-million meals.

Launched and headquartered in Norwalk, Community Plates also operates in New Haven, CT, Albuquerque, NM and Columbus, OH with plans to expand to four more markets in 2014.
