Authors and Art This Weekend in Norwalk

Here are five things Norwalk residents to need to know for the weekend of Aug. 2-4.

Here are a few things to know about Norwalk from Aug. 2 through Aug. 4 to help you plan your weekend. Check out the Patch calendar of events for more things to do.

  1. The weather: The weekend forecast in Norwalk is predicting sunshine on Friday, scattered thunderstorms on Saturday and partly cloudy skies on Sunday, with temperatures in the low 80s all weekend.
  2. Check out the SoNo Arts Celebration: The annual event, which showcases dozens of artists, musical bands, restaurants and fun times kicks off Saturday at noon along Washington, South Main, North Main, Marshall and Ann streets. It runs through Sunday. For more information, visit Sonoarts.org.
  3. Go to hear some live music: The Way-Back Machine is playing at Ash Creek Saloon, located at 2 Wilton Ave., at 9:30 p.m. Friday. Call 203-47-7500 for more details.
  4. Meet an author: Norwalk Public Library will be having a book discussion and signing with Jerry Craft, author of "The Offenders: Saving the World by Serving Detention!", Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. for middle and high schoolers. Author Peter Handrinos will be visiting the library Saturday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. to talk about his new book, "Errors and Fouls: Inside Baseball's 99 Most Popular Myths." Registration is required for both events, so visit the library website to RSVP.
  5. Visit an art gallery: Pop City, located at 68 Wall Street, is holding an exhibit called "A Very Wild West Show" with works by Stamford artist Susan Frey through Aug. 3. There's also an "Industrial Evolution" exhibit at the Maritime Garage Art Gallery and a "Summer" exhibit at Brendan's, both of which last until later this month or into September.
