Keep Norwalk Beautiful Celebrates

Keep American Beautiful certifies Norwalk Chapter

Praising the efforts of volunteer residents, Mayor Richard Moccia has announced that Keep Norwalk Beautiful was officially certified as an Affiliate Of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. (KAB). Moccia recently congratulated the local group's board of directors for achieving this goal and said "Littering has caught up to speed as the number one complaint I get on a day by day basis."

The affiliation with KAB will help the group design programs that will educate individuals about litter prevention and encourage methods to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste. Funds will be raised through grants that are not only available through the network of KAB affiliates, but also through local businesses. Norwalk's Pepperidge Farm Inc. has been an active community corporate citizen, and helped initiate the affiliate process as Norwalk's main sponsor.

The focus on neighborhood clean ups is part of the education process. The annual city wide Keep Norwalk Beautiful spring cleanup is scheduled for Saturday April 16. According to David Shockley, chairman of the Norwalk group, hundreds of volunteers from neighborhood associations, schools, environmental groups and other civic groups will pick up litter and beautify neighborhood surroundings, parks, school yards, vacant properties and our shoreline. Registration information is still open. For more information he can be reached at dshockley@norwalkct.org or (203) 854-7810 ext. 46782.
