Dog Days of Summer at Stepping Stones Museum for Children

Stepping Stones Museum for Children will host a day-long festival celebrating the powerful and important bonds between humans and their animal friends. The third annual BooZoo™’s Canine Carnival, where play and learning go hand-in-paw, will take place on Saturday, June 8, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, on museum grounds and is free with museum admission.

The Canine Carnival is hosted by BooZoo, the museum’s fictional puppy mascot for early childhood learning and literacy, and will feature carnival games for families and dogs, face painting, crafts, a meet-and-greet with BooZoo, a Mutt-i-grees® class, a dog wash and more.  All canine friends, accompanied by owners, are welcome to take part in carnival activities in the Stepping Stones bus circle and Celebration Courtyard.

A highlight of the day is sure to be when “Dancing with Dogs” takes over Stepping Stones. That’s right; the special musical canine freestyle performances by members of the World Canine Freestyle Organization (WCFO, Inc.) will have you saying “Bow-Wowzers!”  You’ll be captivated when the amazingly-talented dogs and their handlers “cut a rug” during some exciting choreographed musical routines.  It promises to be “tail-waggin’” fun for the dogs, the handlers and the audience.  If you are interested, you can learn more about the sport of musical canine freestyle at the WCFO Inc. table.

Visitors are invited to enter their dog(s) in the museum’s Crazy Canine Contest at 11:30 am.

A celebrity panel will judge the dogs in the following categories: best dressed, dog and owner look-alike, fastest tail wager, fluffiest, best mystery mutt, best smile, best ears and walks with attitude. Each dog will be judged in all categories. Dogs must be licensed and accompanied by people who are 15 years or older. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs.

Throughout the event, the mobile unit of the North Shore Animal League, the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, will be on hand with staff members available to answer questions and showcase some of their adoptable friends. This fun-filled, pet-friendly event promotes early childhood development, reading literacy and intergenerational learning between children, parents and caregivers.
