Sports reports:

  • Seeded seventh, McMahon (16-4) hosts No. 26 Newtown (10-10) in the first round of the CIAC Class L state tournament on Monday. The Senators will be looking to rebound from a 77-75 setback to Westhill in the FCIAC playoffs. If they advance, they will take on No. 10 Wilbur Cross or No. 23 Notre Dame of West Haven in the second round on Wednesday.
  • Norwalk's Brandon Riggins reached the finals in the 189-pound division in the New England wrestling championships Saturday in New Haven. He won four matches before losing to Victor Avery of Foxboro, Mass., 13-3 in the final.
  • Norwalk's Adam Rubertino and McMahon's Shellyann Lindo had top-10 finishes Friday in the New England indoor track and field championships in Boston. Rubertino finished eighth in the boys 55-meter hurdles (7.84) and Lindo placed eighth in the girls 55-meter dash (7.39).
