Fairfield's Rosemary Grinalds and partner Corinne Bozzini of Norwalk will compete in the 2011 World Rowing Junior Championships from Aug. 3-7 in Eton, Great Britain.

Grinalds and Bozzini earned their spots on the junior national team by winning the third final in the women’s pair competition at the junior trials on Thursday in West Windsor, N.J.

In the best-out-of-three format, Grinalds and Bozinni came back to win the final two races after losing Wednesday evening’s first final to Saratoga Rowing Association’s Lizzy Fitzhenry and Kristina Wagner.

“[Saratoga] is such a good boat," Grinalds told U.S. Rowing's web site.  I don’t think they’ve been beaten in a race this year. We were like, five seconds is a good amount, but it’s nothing we can’t come back from, so let’s just get our blades in, work on the moves.”

In the final race, the locals posted a winning time of 7:46.5, finishing more than two seconds ahead of Fitzhenry and Wagner (7:48.7).

“We’ve been together for a few days, so we learn something new every time we go out there,” said Grinalds, who was a member of the 2010 junior women’s eight that took home a silver medal.

Norwalk wrapped up pool play in the District One 12-year-old Little League tournament with a 7-4 win over Darien National on Sunday. Norwalk finished 3-3 in its group and was eliminated from the semifinals, which are set for Wednesday.
