The Fairfield County Sports Commission's seventh annual SportsNight awards dinner is set for Monday, Oct. 17 at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich at 6 p.m.

The highlight of the fundraising event  is the induction of the six newest members of the FC Sports Hall of Fame. The newest Hall of Famers are John Bagley, Bennett Salvatore, Joe DeSantis, Ceci Hopp St. Geme, Charlie Bentley and the late Albie Loeffler.

Tickets are available at a discounted rate of $115 until Sept.. 16, and after that date will cost $125.

2. Campbell Finishes Third in USOC Voting

Former Maritime Rowing Club member Andrew Campbell finished third in the voting for the U.S. Olympic Committee's Athlete of the Month for July. The voting closed on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The 19-year-old Campbell received 1,515 votes, 15 percent of the total vote.

A New Canaan High School graduate and Harvard sophomore, Campbell won a bronze medal at the U-23 World Championships in the lightweight men's pair. He also earned a spot on the  U.S. national team and will compete in the world championships in Bled, Slovenia in late August.

However, the voting was dominated by gymnast Danell Leyva (42 percent) and weightlifter Darren Barnes (35 percent).

Seventeen athletes were nominated for the award, including those from the Summer Olympic sports.

3. Mike Garrity basketball summer camp

The Mike Garrity Elite Basketball Summer Camp at Compo Beach is set for the weeks of Aug. 15-19 and Aug. 22-26 from 2-4 p.m. each day.

The camp will be geared toward players from kindergarten through eighth grade and campers will be broken into groups based on age and skill level.

The camp stresses fundamentals. Development will come through drills, lectures and competition. Cost is $275 with a $75 discount for all players that sign up for both weeks.
