Norwalk Falls To Bedford, N.H., In Legion Regionals

The 4-2 loss sends Norwalk into Sunday's loser's bracket final against Whitestown, N.Y.

The Norwalk senior American Legion team suffered its first loss in the Northeast Regionals on Saturday, falling 4-2 to Bedford, N.H., in the winner's bracket final at the Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach.

Norwalk will face Whitestown (N.Y.), in the loser's braceket final on Sunday at 1 p.m. The winner will take on Bedford in the finals on Monday.

Norwalk (28-9) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Matt Ederle's solo home run, but Bedford answered with three runs in the top of the second off starter Michael Parlanti. The big hit in the inning was a two-run double by designated hitter Ryan Mossman

Parlanti allowed four runs - two earned -- and seven hits over 8 1/3 innings with four walks and five strikeouts.

Norwalk got one back in its half of the second as Kevin Cawley led off with a single and scored on two errors, but Bedford (21-5) regained its two-run cushion on Michael Skilton's homer in the third.

Winning pitcher Ton Hudon scattered six hits over six innings with no walk and six strikeouts. Spencer Damon tossed three hitless innings in relief to earn the save.

Ederle and Cawley each had two hits for Norwalk, which put two runners on in the third and sixth innings and couldn't score. The team finished with six hits.

Damon allowed only one runner, a one-out walk in the seventh to Eric Stenger, who was caught stealing, and struck out four. He then retired Norwalk in order in the eighth and ninth innings.
