The Greenwich Cannons took over sole possession of first place in the American Legion Zone Four senior standings after defeating Norwalk 4-2 on Thursday.
Although it is early in the season, the win could supply a boost of confidence for Greenwich (6-1) , which lost the Zone Four title to Norwalk last season. On Wednesday, the Cannons defeated Stamford to tie Norwalk (5-2) for first place in the zone, then grabbed a one-game lead with Thursday's victory.
Norwalk grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning, when Scott Angeley lined a two-run double with the bases loaded into left-center field. However, Greenwich starter Brian Schutzman quickly retired the side to avoid further damage.
The Cannons struck back in the top of the fourth. With two outs and the bases loaded, Stephen Monick hit a rocket to left field, driving in two runs and tying the contest.
In the next inning, Ryan Brennan punched a double into center-left for Greenwich, allowing Kevin Collins enough time to score from first base to give the Cannons a 3-2 lead.
Greenwich's scored its final in the seventh on Andrew Van Eyck's RBI double to left field.
