Norwalk Board of Ed Mulls Policy Banning Sweets in the Classroom

The proposed policy, which the board is expected to vote on in August, would ban cupcakes, cookies or other sweets, according to a report in The Hour of Norwalk.

The Board of Education is reportedly mulling a policy that would ban sweets from classroom celebrations.

The proposed policy, which the board is expected to vote on in August, would ban cupcakes, cookies or other sweets, thus keeping treats offered for classroom celebrations in line with the the state's Healthy Food Initiative, according to a report in The Hour of Norwalk.

"We wanted to try and send a message that food doesn't have to be part of a celebration," Policy Committee Chairman Steve Colarossi said in the report. "There are other things that you can do that give effect to the celebration."
