Norwalk 10th Grade CAPT Scores Often Show Slip From Previous Years

Norwalk tenth-graders Connecticut Academic Performance Test often showed Proficiency and Goal percentage losses, but would occasionally see gains in the Average Scale Score, according to numbers published Thursday at CTReports.com.

Across the board, Norwalk's scores were behind the Connecticut average and did not follow a statewide trend of improvement overall but slight setbacks from the immediately preceding year.

City-wide, by Subject

In Science, less that 35-percent of students were meeting the citywide standards set, and less than three-quarters were at proficiency. Science suffered losses from both the previous year and from 2007.

In the subject of Mathematics, students improved the scale score from the 2007 number, but lost proficiency and goal percentages from the previous years

Reading took a heavy hit, falling behind the starting proficiency mark set in 2007, but making slight gains from the 2007 Goal. Points were still lost from the previous year.

And in Writing, though the numbers were returned slightly lower than the previous year, Norwalk tenth-graders showed improvements from the 2007 Goal and Proficiency numbers.
