Nathan Hale MS Gets a New Principal

Nathan Hale Middle School will be getting a new principal in July — Albert Sackey, the assistant principal of Western Middle School (WMS) in Greenwich.

His appointment is effective July 1. He will succeed interim principal Joseph Rodriguez.

Recently named as the 2014 CT Middle School Principal of the Year by the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS), Sackey has been at Western since 2008. Greenwich school officials said Sackey has been an integral part of shaping the Special Education department at Western, providing a level of collaboration and professionalism, which has assured that the needs of all students are being met.

Sackey chairs the Safe School Climate Committee and has helped to promote an environment of respect for staff and students throughout the school. In addition, he has taken on the role of advisor to a group of student leaders that developed and delivered presentations on the topic of bullying prevention at statewide leadership conferences.  

In a statement, Sackey said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked in a district such as Greenwich. The past six years have been an incredible learning experience for me. I was fortunate to work at Western Middle School with inspirational teachers, amazing children, and supportive parents."

Sackey added, "I have learned from some of the best administrators in the country. My time here has been one I will always remember and I am confident that Western Middle School is in incredible hands with the leadership of Gordon Beinstein and Tom Healy. Thank you and best wishes.”

WMS Principal Gordon Beinstein said, “I am very happy for Al.  He is more than ready to lead his own building. That being said, he will be sorely missed at Western. Ever the professional, Al has helped to create a culture of respect for students, staff and parents at Western in his six years here.  While I have only had the pleasure of working with Al this past year, I quickly gained the utmost respect for his work, and I value our friendship. Norwalk has made a wise choice.”
