McDowell Pleads Guilty to Theft of School Services

Tanya McDowell faces up to five years in prison for illegally enrolling her then-five-year-old son in Brookside Elementary school in Norwalk in 2010. In a separate case, she has also pleaded guilty to narcotics charges.

According to a report in the Huffington Post, McDowell, who has already pleaded guilty to the narcotics charges, is facing charges of first-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny in connection with the school case.

McDowell faces up to five years in prison for the narcotics charges — however she has reportedly worked out a a which will likely mean a reduced sentence.

In a report in the CT Post earlier this month, Assistant State's Attorney Michael DeJoseph said it is likely that McDowell will serve concurrent sentences for the separate crimes.

According to the Huffington Post report, McDowell entered her plea under the "Alford Doctrine, meaning she doesn't admit guilt but concedes the state has enough evidence to convict her," in the school related case.
