The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education (“The Center”) is forming a community support group for adult men and women who are struggling with the aftereffects of childhood abuse. It will provide support to those in different stages of healing and recovery. The group will meet on Thursday nights from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., starting August 25th, at the YWCA Darien/Norwalk, 49 Old Kings Highway North, Darien, CT. It is a free, ongoing group and survivors may join at any time.
The purpose of this group is to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment that enables each member, as they wish, to feel free to speak, discuss, and converse with those who understand the thoughts and feelings that survivors have in common. It will follow a 21-step core principle module developed by ASCASM (Adult Survivors of Child Abuse), an international self-help support group program designed specifically for adult survivors of neglect, physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse. The program focuses on individual and group discussions, as well as a scheduled welcome and wrap-up session at the beginning and end of each meeting.
