Embedding Social Thinking within the Elementary Classroom

Ruby Hsu, M.A., an elementary school teacher at Parker Farms School, Wallingford, CT, will discuss the use of the Superflex curriculum (Madrigal and Winner, 2008) in the general education classroom and its impact on students’ behavioral regulation and awareness of their social behaviors. She will highlight the importance of integrating social cognitive concepts with literature to promote comprehension and inferential thinking abilities in all
students. Ms. Hsu has taught social awareness through the Superflex curriculum to her grade four/five looping class. She collaborates and co-teaches with the Speech and Language Pathologist in her school.
