DIR/Floortime: How to Use Play to Develop Your Child’s Social-Emotional Abilities
Presented by: Lorraine Ehlers-Flint, PhD
A child’s ability to engage socially and emotionally with others is the foundation for learning and development. The Floortime model uses play therapeutically to engage children (at any age), develop intentional communication, social problem-solving, symbolic play, and abstract thinking. Families of children with autism, preschool teachers, and school social workers will learn how to observe, analyze, and build on a child’s play.
Dr. Ehlers-Flint is a clinical and developmental psychologist with extensive pediatric experience in private and community settings. As a faculty member of the DIR Institute and the Interdisciplinary Council on Developmental and Learning Disorders (ICDL), she has special expertise in the use of the DIR/Floortime approach. She has consulted with schools and trained and
supervised psychologists to use Floortime. Previously she taught special education pre-school.
