Come Learn About Volunteering Monday

You're invited to come learn how you can help your community, make positive connections, enhance your skills and expand your horizons all through the simple act of volunteering.

To learn how you can help your community, make positive connections, enhance your skills and expand your horizons all through the simple act of volunteering.

On we at Fairfield County-based VolunteerSquare.com are hosting a free, informal public meeting at the Darien Library and we want you to be our guest.

Countless sources directed at almost every demographic point to the importance and benefits of volunteering. Professional resources like LinkedIn and Monster.com say it’s great for your career.

CollegeBoard.com confirms volunteering is a key piece of what many schools look for in applicants and lays out the additional benefits volunteering can have for high school students.

Dr. Oz even says it’s good for your health! He points out that people who volunteer 2 hours or more per week have lower rates of depression and heart disease! The AARP also says in a recent study that volunteering may reduce heart attacks in older adults. This list of benefits could go on and on.

We built Fairfield County-based VolunteerSquare.com to be a free tool for the community where individuals can easily connect with local nonprofits in need of assistance. We have partnered with dozens of agencies throughout Fairfield County and are adding more every week. We have dozens and dozens of calls for volunteers live on the site right now ranging from mentors to babysitters to photographers and marketing professionals. The needs are endless.

You can use our site to search opportunities based on your particular skills and interests. You can set up customized, FREE, e-alerts that will let you know immediately when a volunteer opportunity that matches your profile is posted. Plus, we also have our own social networking platform where volunteers and agencies can share photos, videos and other content to learn more about what’s happening here in Fairfield County.

We have seen and heard countless stories of the positive impact volunteers are having on area nonprofits and those they serve and we know everyone has something to give back. We want to help you get started!

Come by and meet us on Monday March 19th at the Darien Library Community Room at 7 p.m.  to learn more about what we’re doing and how it can work for you! In the meantime, check us out at www.volunteersquare.com

Volunteering at the Mercy Learning Center for Women has been the highlight of my retirement. My students are hard working immigrant women whose determination, study habits and enthusiasm have made them excellent learners. The Center is located at 637 Park Ave in Bridgeport. 203 334-6699. Gerald, that is so nice to hear - and not surprising! We've actually reached out to Mercy Learning Center to invite them to partner with us on our site and would love an introduction. The work they do is amazing and we would be happy to help them spread the word.
