SoNo Task Force to be Chaired by Former Mayor Collins

Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling will meet Friday with SoNo business owners and
residents to further a conversation regarding needed improvements in the district.

The meeting fulfills a pledge made during the mayoral election campaign at which Mayor Rilling promised to form a task force to confront concerns, discuss ideas for improvements and define issues needing attention.

Friday’s first meeting of the Task Force will take place at noon at the offices of
Beinfield Architecture at 1 Marshall Street.

“SoNo represents  a vibrant part of our City that defines the hospitable and successful plan of redevelopment. No doubt the district has lost a little of its luster in recent years and I want to partner with residents and businesses to ensure everything possible is being done to ensure SoNo’s effervescence is receiving appropriate attention," Mayor Rilling said in a release.

Mayor Rilling has called upon former Mayor William Collins to serve as chairman of the Task Force. Mr. Collins served as Mayor during the initial phase of SoNo’s redevelopment including construction of the Maritime Aquarium and renovation of Washington Street. Mr. Collins welcomed the opportunity to lead the Task Force.

“The success of SoNo has provided Norwalk with a unique place on Connecticut’s coastline, honoring our city’s heritage in a modern environment. Like all good ideas SoNo requires constant energy to ensure sustainability of success. The Task Force is designed to accomplish that," Collins said in the release.

The meeting will open conversation to the SoNo business and residential community to discuss ideas on how to approach matters of concern including  parking, safety, cleanliness and marketing.
