Rampart Road Bridge Over Interstate 95 to Close for 14 Months Starting April 11

The state Department of Transportation announced the bridge closure on Wednesday.

The state Department of Transportation issued this news release today, announcing that Rampart Road bridge over Interstate 95 will be closed for construction work, beginning April 11 and lasting through June of 2012:

"The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of bridge construction work for the replacement of the Rampart Road Bridge over Interstate 95 as well as reconstruction of approaches to the bridge extending to Jo-Mar Road in the town of Norwalk.  The bridge closure will be in effect from April 11, 2011 through June 2012.

"The Contract was awarded to Rotha Contracting Company of Avon, CT on December 12, 2010, at a cost of $1,884,884.50 and is scheduled for completion June 2012.

"Rampart Road – DETOUR   Rampart Road will be closed to traffic between Jo-Mar Road and Route 1 effective April 11, 2011.  Detour signs will be in place to direct motorists and pedestrians around the area.

"Special Note- Traffic may be halted up to 10 minutes between the hours of 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m. on all non-holidays on I-95 to protect motorists during the removal or setting of structural steel for the bridge.  Advance notice of these events will be provided.

"Variable message signs will be utilized to advise motorists of traffic conditions in the area.   Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions."
