Norwalk's McQuaid: 'We Do Great Stuff Here'

McQuaid's first term will come to an end this election season. He hopes the city was satisfied enough with his efforts to give him a second go

There is a friendly, relaxed atmosphere in the Norwalk Town Clerk's office and a lot of that has to do with Rick McQuaid, who's first term is coming to a close this election season. McQuaid is hoping the atmosphere he's had a hand in creating will help carry him on to a second term.

"We're his biggest fan club," shouts one of the office workers into his office while McQuaid is sitting at his desk chatting with Norwalk Patch. McQuaid chuckles.

"I was a council person for 16 years before this job," he said. "This was just another step in serving the public of a town in which I'm a lifelong resident. I've been involved in some form of politics since I was 12."

McQuaid said he's worked hard to create that environment that seeks to be helpful and useful to everyone who enters the office, regardless of age, sex, race or—especially—political affiliation.

"I have an open door policy. We do great stuff here, and we have a good rapport with both political parties in town," McQuaid said. "This is not a political job."

Currently, no one has seen fit to challenge McQuaid's dream of continuing to serve the public of Norwalk. As of Feb. 8, McQuaid was running unoppposed.

"I love this job so much, I'd really love to stay right here for a long time," McQuaid said.
