Norwalk Increases Parking Fees

Monthly parking permits for the South and East Norwalk Train stations will go up by $2, as per an increase recently approved by the Norwalk Parking Authority.

A new fee structure for 's city-owned parking facilities reportedly went into effect today.

According to a report in The Hour of Norwalk, monthly parking permits for the South and East Norwalk Train stations will go up by $2, as per an increase recently approved by the Norwalk Parking Authority.

What's more daily parking fees at most of the City's parking lots and garages will increase by $1, the report states.

A new multi-facility permit which is now available will give permit holders the option to park either at the or Maritime Garage, according to the report.

The City reportedly hopes that the new "gold card" will encourage commuters to frequent more restaurants and bars in the SoNo area after they get off the train.

Meanwhile the Parking Authority has reportedly shelved a proposal to extend the hours for parking enforcement in SoNo from 6 to 9 p.m. Currently the city enforces parking meters in some areas until 6 p.m., others until 9 p.m. The Parking Authority had sought to extend the hours to 9 p.m. at all locations, but the plan was reportedly scrapped after some merchants objected, based on the fear that it could impact business in the down economy.
