NEON Board Convenes Special Meeting Thursday Night

The NEON Board will discuss the delay in distribution of employee paychecks this week and the current status of NEON Child Development programs at a special meeting Thursday night in Stamford.

"Responding to this week's non-payment of salaries to employees, and a host of other serious issues facing the agency, the NEON Board of Directors welcomed acting CEO and President Chiquita Stephenson's agreement to take an unpaid leave of absence," NEON Board Chair Michael Berkoff said on Thursday in a release.

"The board of directors is working with local and state officials as well as concerned members of our community to resolve many of the current issues facing NEON, including expediting the distribution of employee paychecks, re-opening Norwalk's Head Start program under the federally appointed temporary administration of Community Development Institute (CDI,) at the earliest possible date -- and ensuring the availability of services NEON provides to the vulnerable population the agency serves in the 8 cities and towns of lower Fairfield County," Berkoff said.

Berkoff explained that the top priorities of NEON's board is to put new management in place as soon as possible " to stabilize NEON and identify and correct all issues related to the agency's fiscal administration, with transparency and responsiveness to funding sources and the community," according to Berkoff.

Following the special Board of Directors meeting Thursday night, Berkoff said NEON will inform the public on the steps to be taken to "renovate and restore NEON."
