First of Three Debates Between Moccia and Rilling Set for Wednesday

Three debates will be held between Republican incumbent Mayor Richard Moccia and his Democratic challenger, former Norwalk Police Chief Harry Rilling.

The first debate will be held on Wednesday, Oct 16, 6:00p.m., at the South Norwalk Community Center, 98 South Main Street, addressing Latino-based issues.

The Oct. 16th debate will be moderated by Lourders Montalvo, Director of Constituent Services at the Connecticut Secretary of State’s Office.  Two Latino media outlets will sponsor the event, La Voz Hispana  and El Sol News.  There will be opening remarks, two questions from each media outlet through the moderator, a question from South Norwalk Community Center, Inc. (SNCC) and two questions from the audience.  Lastly, there will be closing remarks.

“This is a great opportunity for both candidates to speak directly to the Latino community in Norwalk.  Latinos have become the majority of the minority and with that comes a need to discuss challenges facing the community.  The SNCC urges Latinos to be present to hear both candidates perspective,” said SNCC’s Deputy Director Pat Ferrandino.

The debate is scheduled for 60 minutes so the SNCC urges people to arrive early as it will end at 7:00pm.
