Mayor Richard Moccia announced Thursday that proceeds from the 2013 Mayor’s Ball would be going to the Fairfield County Community Foundation Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.

The Relief Fund was established as a means of assisting local residents in need who were impacted by the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy. The fund assists residents fromthroughout Fairfield County; however, income from The Mayor’s Ball will be directed specifically to Norwalk residents in need.

“The effects of Hurricane Sandy overwhelmed many local families, many of whom do not have the ability to recover from the financial impact of the storm," said Sheila A. Perrin, Chairperson of the Fairfield County Community Foundation. "Mayor Moccia’s generous decision to devote proceeds from the upcoming ball will go a long way toward helping local families who are least able to recuperate from the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy.”

The Fairfield County Community Foundation will award grants from the proceeds to local nonprofits helping Norwalk residents recover from Hurricane Sandy.

In announcing this year’s recipient of proceeds from The Mayor’s Ball, Moccia noted the particular need prompted by the wreckage inflicted of Hurricane Sandy.

“This storm—through wind, rain and flooding—produced damage from which many families are simply unable to recover without some help from their neighbors," the mayor said. "It is in times like this that the Fairfield County Community Foundation can be relied upon to assist our neighbors in need and I am sincerely grateful that, through the Foundation, Norwalk families who were overwhelmed by the storm will receive some assistance.”
