Minutes with the Mayor: Governor Addresses Chamber on Thursday, Police Investigate Shootings, Greek Independence Day

Update 9:18 a.m.:

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy will speak at the 122nd annual dinner of the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce event this coming Thursday, Moccia said. The mayor's statement on Friday appears to be the first public announcement that the governor would be at the event. 

Malloy spokesman David Bednarz confirmed Monday morning that Malloy will address the chamber. The governor's speech scheduled to begin at 8:15 p.m., well after the 5 p.m. reception and the 6:30 p.m. scheduled start of the dinner itself. The chamber is holding its 122nd annual dinner  at .

The governor will speak about the state economy and his budget proposal, Bednarz said. Malloy has spoken to several chambers of commerce around the state in recent weeks as well as to the public at "town meetings" around the state. (During the interview Moccia said the event is on Tuesday, but the chamber dinner is on Thursday, and Bednarz confirmed that is the day Malloy is scheduled to speak there.)

On Tuesday, the Common Council meets, and exchange students from Chiba, Japan are expected to be introduced to the council. A dinner and reception with the students and the Board of Education is planned for Wednesday at Nathan Hale Middle School.

Also on the council's agenda is a proposal to finance the purchase of a front-end loader for the city, at a cost of$184, 160, minus the trade-in allowance of $26,000. The council is also expected to vote on approving the purchase of eight new Crown Victoria model police cars at a cost of $185,464, and an additional $19,500 for eight police radios and $6,700 to install them.

On Monday, March 21, the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters Chorus appears in the concert hall in Norwalk City Hall, starting at 7 p.m. On Friday, Greek Independence Day, a ceremony will be held at the Heritage Wall in Thomas C. O'Connor Park, across West Avenue from the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion.
