Mayor: $700K Union Offer Not Enough [Video]

On Tuesday, Al Sharpton comes to town for a rally by supporters of Tanya McDowell, and the Board of Education meets in the Concert Hall to vote on union proposals for cutting the budget—and perhaps to lay off employees.

The Board of education meets Tuesday and is expected to consider union proposals to cut between $700,000 and $800,000 from the board's proposed city education budget. That does not pay for all of the cuts that the city Board of Estimate and Common Council decided to cut from the request, so layoffs and program cuts may result.

In addition to this weeks events mentioned by Mayor Richard A. Moccia, a rally will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brookside Elementary School on Highland Ave. in support of Tanya McDowell, the woman accused of larceny for putting her child in a Norwalk public school.

Police and the prosecutor say McDowell was a Bridgeport resident when she enrolled her child in Brookside. McDowell says she was homeless with strong ties to Norwalk. She is due to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk on Tuesday, the day of the rally.
