Thursday is “Don’t Text and Drive Day”

Thursday is "Don't Text and Drive Day." Did drivers heed the advice?

Governor Dannel P. Malloy proclaimed September 19, 2013 “Don’t Text and Drive Day” Connecticut.

According to a study by NHTSA, in 2011, 660,000 drivers were using cell phones or manipulating electronic devices while driving during the day at any given daylight moment.

Recently the German film director, producer, screenwriter and actor Werner Herzog created a short film called "It can wait" for an AT&T texting-while-driving awareness campaign. At last look, the documentary has accrued 2.2million views on YouTube.

In a statement about the documentary Herzog said, “When you get a message while driving, it’s hard not to pick up your phone. With this film, we want to help make people more aware of the potential consequences of that action.”

If anyone thinks they can text an drive safely, this PSA is pretty convincing otherwise.  The “It Can Wait” campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of texting while driving has additional information about the dangers of multi-tasking in the car.

Did anyone notice fewer people texting and driving during their travels on Thursday, "Don't Text and Drive Day"?
