Malloy: Major Coastal Storm Cautions

NWS: Heavy rain rolling in overnight, accompanied by strong winds.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today cautioned residents about a major coastal storm that will impact Connecticut beginning late tonight and lasting into Wednesday.

The current forecast is calling for heavy rain, minor flooding, and high winds, so Gov. Malloy advises taking common-sense precautions to secure property and to stay aware of deteriorating conditions as the height of this storm approaches.

“If you have travel plans tomorrow, please use caution on the roadways and give yourself some extra time to get your destination," Malloy said in a release

The Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS) monitor the storm’s progress and is ready to coordinate any response or assistance that may be necessary.

Tuesday night the National Weather Service predicts rain, heavy at times, with temperature rising to around 53º by 5:00am. Breezy, with a light east wind increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 46 mph. NWS forecasts precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Wednesday, NWS predicts rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Areas of fog before noon. High near 58°. Breezy, with a south wind 17 to 22 mph becoming west 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 46 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
