Norwalk Mayor Richard A. Moccia has chosen Kathryn Hebert, Director of the Norwalk Parking Authority, to be his representative, on the Norwalk Advisory Commission of Arts and Culture. As the Mayor’s staff representative Hebert will serve as the primary point of contact between Mayor Moccia and the Commission. The appointment comes as Tad Diesel, Director of Marketing and Business Development for Norwalk, steps down from the Commission to devote his time to the Norwalk Public Schools’ Emergency Planning Project.

"Kathryn Hebert is a great match for the Commission," Moccia said. "She is familiar with and involved in the arts in Norwalk as former Board Member of the Norwalk Symphony and with the Parking Authority, founding the Art in Parking Places program both at the South Norwalk Train Station and the Maritime Garage Gallery. She has truly demonstrated the cooperative culture of working with many different organizations to bring enlightening art experiences to Norwalk."

Hebert has served successfully on various community nonprofit boards including United Way, March of Dimes and as a member of the Board of Governors for the Norwalk Symphony, the Norwalk Arts Commission and as President of the SoNo Arts Celebration. She also serves as a Peer Advisor Consultant with the State of Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism and as an Ambassador with the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce.

The Norwalk Commission on Arts and Culture promotes and enhances cultural and artistic experiences in Norwalk by identifying funding sources for local arts organizations, partnering and liaising with city departments and local arts organizations on arts related programs, services and capacity-building and providing guidance on the use of City assets by artists and the arts community. The Commission also stewards the City’s public art collections including the WPA murals and exhibits at the Mayor’s Gallery. Recent initiatives include the Consolidation of Norwalk exhibit at the Mayor’s Gallery, a mural at Calf Pasture Beach, and a traffic graphic project on traffic boxes around South Norwalk.
