Watch Out Friday Commuters: I-95 N Ramp at West Ave. Closed Till 4 p.m.

Weather conditions have pushed back the closure of the West Ave. entrance ramp to Interstate 95 north from Thursday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and part of the day Thursday, the Norwalk Department of Public Works has announced.

Update 12:36 p.m. Tuesday:

Every Friday afternoon, people leave work well before 5 p.m. to get an early start on the weekend. It's been going on for years as cars enter the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in particular, creating congestion on that route in Norwalk.

But not this Friday—at least not from the I-95 northbound ramp at West Avenue. No one but construction crews will be on that ramp until it reopens to traffic at 4 p.m., according to the schedule just announced by the Norwalk Department of Public Works.

The original part-of-Wednesday/all-day-Thursday closure has been postponed a day, so the 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. closure will occur on Friday rather than Thursday. On Thursday, the ramp may be closed for part of the day as well.

Here's the announcement from the Department of Public Works in its own words:

"Due to the recent weather conditions, the milling and paving of the I-95NB on-ramp from West Avenue has been delayed by one day. This work is now scheduled to take place on 8/18-8/19, weather permitting.

"Please expect closure of the I-95 NB on-ramp during the day on Friday, Aug. 19 with the possibility of intermittent closure on Thursday, Aug. 18. Traffic control personnel and detour signing will be in place to direct traffic to an alternate route."

Original article, Monday:

The entrance to the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 at the Exit 15 Interchange on West Avenue will be closed on Thursday for repaving, and may be closed at points on Wednesday as well, the Norwalk Department of Public Works announced.

The closure will allow paving on the entrance ramp on Thursday. On Wednesday, crews may need to work on "milling" the pavement, part of the repaving process, and the milling work would not cause the ramp to be closed all of that day, according to the DPW.

Weather "or other unforeseen conditions," may cause "modifications or extensions to this schedule," the DPW warned in a news release Monday. "Motorists should also be advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work area."

Just to the north of the Exit 15 on-ramp, the West Avenue entrance to the southbound lanes on Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 7 was closed from to . Installation of traffic signals at that intersection has not yet taken place.

The general contractor for the West Avenue road improvement project is Deering Construction of Norwalk.
