GOP: Upcoming CT Budget Bloated, Burdensome [Video]
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's promise for bipartisanship in planning budget wasn't met, they said.
First term Gov. Dannell P. Malloy–a Democrat and former mayor of Stamford—showed interest in working with Republicans in preparing his 2011–2013 biennial state budget, said House Minority Leader Larry Cafero Monday night. But in the end, he ignored the minority party’s suggestions and created a budget that requires more spending, higher taxes, and only questionably meets the state Constitution’s requirement that it be balanced, Cafero said.
Cafer, a Norwalk Republican, summarized the outcome of the General Assembly’s budget negotiations at a legislative review program at Norwalk Community College, joined by GOP state representatives Gail Lavielle (representing parts of Wilton and Norwalk), Terrie Wood (representing parts of Darien and Norwalk) and John Hetherington (representing parts of New Canaan and Wilton).
Republicans offered a “No Tax Increase” budget during the session, said Cafero, standing beside a screen displaying the details of his party’s budget proposals.
