FOI Commission Tackling Request to Release 911 Calls From School Shooting in Newtown
Connecticut's Freedom of Information Commission is holding a hearing this week on the request from the Associated Press.
The fate of a media outlet's request to release 911 tapes and other documents related to the shooting at Sandy Hook School rests in the hands of Connecticut's Freedom of Information Commission.
And the nine-member commission will convene Wednesday for a public hearing before rendering its decision, according to an article by the Associated Press (AP) that was published by theNew Haven Register.
The AP made the request "in part to examine the response of law enforcement to one of the worst school shootings in U.S. history," the article states.
The shooting, on Dec. 14, 2012, claimed the life of 20 first-graders and six educators. Police have said the lone gunman, a 20-year-old, first killed his mother at their home in Sandy Hook before he went on a shooting rampage at the nearby school, which ended when he took his own life.
An official police report has not yet been released; though authorities have said it is expected to be made public soon.
