Firefighter, Police Unions Endorse Romano

Norwalk police and firefighter unions endorse Joanne Romano for re-election to her at-large seat on the Common Council.

Norwalk police and firefighters unions have endorsed Joanne Romano for re-election to an at-large seat on the Common Council.

"Joanne comes from a law enforcement family," said Sgt. Thomas Roncinske Jr., president of the Norwalk Police Union, Local 1727, in a news release. "Joanne understands what police officers deal with everyday. Joanne has been a strong ally of the police union for many years.

"We believe that Joanne's experience with the Common Council and chairwoman of the Personnel Committee make her an excellent candidate. We look forward to working with Joanne in the future," he said.

The International Association of Firefighters Union, Local 830, also endorsed Romano. 

Firefighters Local 830 President Lefty Petrides said, "Joanne has always been very supportive of the Norwalk Fire Department and has supported our efforts to keep Norwalk safe whether on or off the Common Council.

"We look forward to working with Joanne once more as we feel she is a true advocate for the safety of all Norwalk residents and we as firefighters.” 

Petrides said that while on the council Romano has worked closely with the Fire Department and has promoted public safety by being involved in many of the committees and groups that deal directly with the fire and safety officials and programs, including the Health, Welfare and Public Safety Committee, the Norwalk Disaster Reserve Volunteer Program and the City Ordinance Committee.
