Democrats Won't Challenge First Selectman Stevenson This Year

The Darien Democratic Town Committee won't challenge Republican First Selectman Jayme Stevenson this year, DTC Chairman Randy Klein has announced.

In a news release, Klein said that while some Darien residents stepped forward to be interviewed as candidates for the job by the town committee, "personal and professional circumstances and commitments did not allow them to run for the top spot this year."

In announcing the Democratic slate, a candidate for town clerk was also not on the list.

Here's Klein's news release, sent out on Friday:

Elections are about choices. Campaigns are about ideas. Although this year the Darien Democrats have been unsuccessful in bringing forward a First Selectman candidate, we have an opportunity to present a vision for the Town of Darien, identify the challenges we face, and propose thoughtful solutions on how to meet those challenges.

I would like to thank the members of the Darien Community who came forward to interview for the position of First Selectman. Unfortunately personal and professional circumstances and commitments did not allow them to run for the top spot this year.

I would also like to thank the members of the Nominating Committee for their commitment to selecting the solid slate of candidates listed below.

Board of Selectman – Kip Hall and Reilly Tierney
Board Of Education – Shannon Silsby and Callie Sullivan
Board of Finance – Frank Huck
Planning and Zoning – Eric Voight
Tax Collector – Tom Valentino
Board of Assessment Appeals – Sharad Samy

Thank you,

Randall Klein
Chairman Darien Democratic Town Committee
