CT Lawmakers to Review Sex-Abuse Reporting Mandates

In the wake of the Penn State scandal, the two legislators chairing the Legislature's Select Committee on Children will examine existing laws to see if they need to be more strict.

As a result of the made against former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, Rep. Diana Urban (D-North Stonington) and Sen. Terry Gerratana (D-New Britain), the chairwomen of Connecticut's Select Committee on Children, said they will review the state's current reporting laws to ensure that they are strict enough, according the Hartford Courant.

Urban released on Monday that the scandal is a "wake-up call" and that requiring teachers, doctors and other professionals to report cases of child abuse and neglect may not be enough.

"It’s the responsibility of all adults to report these sexual assaults on children," she said in the statement.
