Wheel Loader Stolen From Connecticut Avenue Parking Lot

Thief of 24,000 pound machine must have installed a battery to start it, owner says. Also, arrest made in April 7 armed robbery; and leaf blowers are stolen from East Norwalk landscaping company.

A 24,000 pound Komatsu wheel loader was discovered missing Tuesday night from a shopping center parking lot at 500 Connecticut Ave.

The machine's owner, Jack Socci of Socci & Socci Landscaping, 33 Hemlock Pl., told police the machine had been parked in the lot since March.

Socci said it was last seen at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and was found missing at about 9:30 p.m.

He said the battery had been removed, so the thief must have supplied his own battery to start it. Police said all Komatsu machines of the same model use the same ignition key.

Arrest Made In Connection With April Armed Robbery

A Stamford man was arrested by warrant Tuesday for his alleged participation in an armed robbery last month.

Police said Cheves Robertson, 20, of 40 Culloden Rd., was one of five bandits who confronted three men walking to a residence on Burritt Avenue the night of April 7 after visiting a pizza parlor.

The victims said they were cutting through the King-Kennedy public housing project on Chestnut Street when they were confronted by the assailants, reporting one brandished a handgun, another had a knife and a third was wearing brass knuckles.

Two cell phones were taken, along with an iPod and $2 cash.

Police spokesman Lt. Praveen John said investigators located Robertson by conducting numerous interviews.

Robertson was held on $50,000 bond and given a court date of June 1.

Two Blowers Nabbed From Landscaper

The Teed & Brown Landscaping Company in East Norwalk reported Tuesday morning two trucks were burglarized, with a Husqvarna backpack leaf blower stolen from each of them.

The company at 25 Van Zant St. provided surveillance video showing the break-ins occurring at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Reports were provided by the Norwalk Police Dept. An arrest does not indicate a person is guilty of a crime.
