Woman Says Former Boyfriend Owes Her Money, Obtains Credit Cards in His Name

The following accounts have been provided by the Norwalk Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A Stratford woman was arrested by warrant Thursday, accused of stealing her former boyfriend’s identity to obtain credit cards in his name.

In a warrant applied for last April, Kathryn O’Toole, 28, was charged by Norwalk Police with third-degree larceny and two counts of identity theft.

Police spokeswoman Lisa Cotto said on Friday O’Toole allegedly obtained credit cards between 2002 and 2005 in her former boyfriend’s name, and racked up $3,136 in purchases at Macy’s and J.C. Penney she didn’t pay to the card issuers.

O’Toole admitted making the purchases and said she got the cards because he owed her money, Cotto said.

O’Toole’s former boyfriend told police he wasn’t aware of what was happening until last February when he tried to buy a car and found his credit was “messed up.” He said he found he was delinquent on credit card payments and his credit score had dropped.

Cotto said he said he hadn’t spoken to his former girlfriend since June 2008.

O’Toole was held on combined bonds of $10,000 and assigned a court date of Sept. 30.
