Woman Drives SUV Into Upholstery Store

Store employee sitting behind desk at the front of the store was injured.

A woman accidently drove her Subaru Outback into the Hunter-Douglas Gallery store Monday afternoon.

The vehicle went through the front windows and ended up completely inside the store at 337 Westport Ave.

Police said the woman told them she was pulling into a parking space in front of the store and then accidently stepped onto the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal. The woman was not charged because the accident happened on private property.

The accident was reported at 3 p.m.

A police dispatcher radioed that the SUV had an expired registration.

A female store employee who was sitting at a desk positioned at the front of the store was injured when the vehicle pushed the desk into her. The woman was taken by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital.

A representative from the city's Building Dept. examined the structure and found it safe for people to enter.
