Woman Accuses Ex-Boyfriend of Assaulting Her

She flees car after he drives her to his residence, police said.

A Papp Street resident called police Sunday morning to report her former boyfriend punched her repeatedly after she didn't answer his phone calls.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Cotto said the woman told officers he called her repeatedly Saturday night, but she didn't take his calls. Sunday morning, the woman said, she woke up and saw out the window he was parked in her driveway.

The woman, according to Cotto, walked outside and he began berating her for not answering his calls, and wanted to know where she'd been Saturday night. She said she told him she was out with friends, at which point he punched her on the side of her head and she fell to the ground.

Cotto said the woman suggested to him they get into his car so they didn't argue in public.

Cotto said after getting in the car, the woman reported the man -- later identified as Rafael Aybar-Moriset -- punched her twice more and then slammed her head against the center console. She said Aybar-Moriset then told her they were going to his home and "end this now."

Cotto said the woman tried to unlock her door and escape, but Aybar-Moriset kept relocking the door. She said as they were driving to his residence at 26 Morton St., she repeatedly attempted to turn the ignition key to off, but he blocked her.

When they got to Morton Street, Cotto said, the woman fled from the car and two witnesses asked her if she needed help. They drove her back home and she called police.

Officers went to Aybar-Moriset's home and arrested him.

Aybar-Moriset, 22, was charged with first-degree unlawful restraint, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He was held on $7,500 bond and was to appear in court Monday.
