Wilton Bicyclist Struck by Norwalk Transit Bus on Route 7

A Norwalk Transit District bus struck a 22-year-old bicyclist on Route 7 in Wilton on Wednesday injuring the rider, according to Wilton police.

A 22-year-old Wilton man was knocked to the ground and suffered unknown injuries Wednesday evening after he was struck by a Norwalk Transit District bus while riding on Route 7.

Details of the accident are still being investigated, but the man was taken to Norwalk Hospital by Wilton EMS personnel following the 5:10 p.m. accident. The identity of the cyclist and the extent of his injuries were not disclosed, and no other injuries were reported.

According to Wilton Police Lt. Donald Wakeman, both the bus and the cyclist were traveling northbound in the right lane on Route 7 near Arrowhead Road when the bus struck the rider and knocked him to the ground. The cyclist was traveling on the road's shoulder.

The bus was being operated by a 52-year-old man, police said, and his identity also has not been released.
